Family Business research unveils new insights on the next generation of entrepreneurs

Inspired by the 20th anniversary of the Family Business Network, the 2020 Next Generation: Hopes, Dreams & Ambitions survey gives insight into the hopes, dreams and ambitions of the next generation of family business owners. The trend survey, conducted in August among 100 next-generation members of the Family Business Network in Europe, Asia and North and South America, is part of the publication entitled 2020 Next Generation: Hopes, Dreams & Ambitions, which is published by the Family Business Network International in partnership with IMD and ABN AMRO Private Banking.

The research reveals that, in general, the next generation does not see itself as much different from the previous one. However, some slight differences are apparent. The next generation is more interested in a good work/life balance and in sustainability, and sees itself as adopting a different leadership style. Further, the next generation expects to contribute to family businesses more often in governance roles. Nonetheless, building and continuing the legacy are the most important goals for both generations.

The survey results were unveiled during the 20th Global Family Business Network Summit held this past weekend in Amsterdam.
