The New IMD Research Center based in LausanneEngaging with the world's most important emerging market |
Professor Katherine Xin
IMD's new China Research Center based in Lausanne will study the performance of existing and new key players in China – both Chinese and international companies – and learn from their experiences. The Director of the Center is Katherine Xin, IMD’s Professor of Organizational Behavior and Strategic Human Resources. Professor Xin, a native of the Chinese mainland, has extensive teaching, research and consulting experience in universities and multinational companies around the world.
The results of the 2007 edition of IMD’s World Competitiveness Yearbook highlight a big shake-up in economic and business power. Emerging nations are quickly catching up in competitiveness. These new players now contest the long-standing competitive supremacy of industrialized nations.
IMD’s China research strategy involves learning to understand the issues executives confront when doing business in China, or when pursuing international market opportunities from a Chinese base. These case studies about best practices (or even failures) are then taken back into the classroom at the IMD Global Meeting Place in Lausanne, so that executives from all over the world can benefit from the latest research on current business situations and dilemmas in the region.
The IMD China Research Center is the first element in a new IMD research strategy. There will shortly see the establishment of a research center in Mumbai, India.
Some recent IMD research articles related to China include:
Professor Xin teaches on the International Seminar for Top Executives and the Orchestrating Winning Performance program.
