MBA COMMUNITY

A worldwide network

A small, high-caliber group of international and diverse people, the MBA community includes our 90 participants and their families, our experienced Faculty and alumni from past MBA and executive programs.

The MBA Class of 2010
We select the best – the quality of our participants is the key factor in the success and reputation of the IMD MBA. Like all MBA classes at IMD, this year’s participants are a small group of highly motivated, international people with significant achievements to their credit.

In a class of only 90, there is simply no place to hide - Faculty and staff know you as an individual, not just a face in an auditorium.

One class – 42 nationalities

This year’s participants come from all over the world and speak an average of 4 languages. More than 90% have lived/worked outside their home country for a minimum of 6 months prior to the program.

Over 600 years work experience
83% of our participants are between 28 and 33. Participants outside of this range are selected for their extraordinary skills or experience and bring added diversity and value to the class.

The class of 2010 has an average work experience of seven years, and the majority have between four and nine years. These are the industries the participants have worked in.

Family opportunities
If your family decides to join you in Switzerland, the MBA partners and the IMD kindergarten can help them to make the most of the opportunities that exist.

Our current MBA partners would be happy to share their experiences with you. Contact them at partner2partner@imd.ch

IMD MBA partners
Every year, many MBAs come to Lausanne with their partners. To make their year as rewarding as possible, the partner program helps them to settle into Lausanne and create an active network. Partners often take the opportunity to organise lectures, language and computer classes, cultural and social events, as well as sports activities and excursions. IMD also provides the partners with a study room and computer facilities.

“The 30 or so partners who spent most of their time at IMD were a sparky, fun group of like-minded individuals willing and able to share the experience, offer support and seek it where necessary.”

Eliz O'Halloran, Irish, MBA Partner 2004

The IMD MBA Faculty
Unique to IMD is a Faculty to participant ratio of 1:3.

Our Faculty give a strong global perspective to the program. They represent over 20 nationalities and divide their time between teaching and research. At the same time, they often act as consultants and many have held management positions in manufacturing or service companies.

As a result, the Faculty contribution to the MBA:

  • Covers the full spectrum of management skills and critical issues facing business leaders
  • Draws on practical experience
  • Provides up-to-date knowledge of the realities of leading growth

"The faculty's ability to wear many hats here - mentor, teacher, project advisor - is what I really value. I genuinely enjoy teaching this program because I get to know the people I'm teaching."

“I would recommend everyone to talk to alumni before going through the IMD admission process. IMD alumni are exceptional people and they were of valuable support for me - even though one finally has to go through the selection process by oneself.”

Andreas Maier, German, MBA 2005
