What
IMD’s Breakthrough Program for Senior Executives (BPSE) brings together top-class Faculty who are undisputed leaders in their field and a carefully selected group of senior executives. The program is designed to be a catalyst for change, leading you to develop “I’d never thought about it like this” insights.
Specifically, it will help you to:
- Reflect on your personal priorities – how happy are you with what you are doing and where you are going?
- Re-examine how to meet today’s and tomorrow’s challenges – in both your current and future positions
- Identify new opportunities – whether it is moving into new markets or finding ways to innovate
- Improve the performance of your team and your business, and become an even more effective leader
The two-week program is a unique experience: You will learn new things, confirm or unlearn old things and make human connections. You will laugh, and you will be moved, stimulated, inspired and re-energized.
Of course, no senior executive can completely disconnect from work, so you will have regular opportunities to stay in contact with your office. But spending two weeks on the program is important – it gives you time to make the psychological breakthrough that brings maximum benefit, and commit to a specific plan for achieving your goals.
In BPSE you will:

The program employs a range of methods from cutting-edge case studies, simulations and experimental learning, to presentations from Faculty and guest speakers. You will also benefit from peer-coaching circles and small group discussions.
A typical BPSE schedule includes sessions such as:

BPSE is not simply two weeks at IMD. It is firmly anchored in your life:
- Pre-program, you connect with other participants
- During the program, you reflect, participate in a mountain retreat, gain insights, radically change the way you think, develop a personal action and development plan
- Post-program, you implement your plan, stay in contact with Faculty and your fellow participants

In this section, you will find important information on the program fee, application, invoicing, cancellation and transfer. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our program advisors.
Fee
The program fee (which can be found on the overview page) includes tuition, teaching materials, and lunch on weekdays. Travel or living expenses are not covered. You must settle your own hotel bills, both when in Lausanne and on off-campus assignments, as well as all dinners and lunches on weekends when applicable. IMD reserves the right to modify the program fee at any time.
Tentative reservation
To make a non-binding reservation, send us a completed tentative reservation form. This carries no obligation and is not a substitute for the formal application form.
Application & invoicing
Your application is forwarded to the program director who will evaluate it to ensure that the program corresponds to your objectives and profile. This can take approximately 1 week.
During this time you will receive an e-mail asking you to submit a purchase order number if required. Should your company ask you to provide them with a purchase requisition or cost estimate for internal purposes you can use our purchase requisition or cost estimate generator.
The information & registration office will notify you of the outcome of your application. If you are accepted, they will send your acceptance letter and invoice fee together by priority mail. From this point, your enrollment will be considered firm by both you and IMD.
Please pay the program fee within 30 days of the invoice date and no later than the commencement of the program. If you register within 1 month of the start of the program, you must settle the invoice immediately without exception.
Payment can be made by bank transfer or credit card.
Up to six weeks before the program start date, a program coordinator will contact you with information on hotels and pre-program preparation. Please note that IMD reserves enough rooms for each participant on the program.
If accepted, you understand that you must be completely free of professional duties while attending this program and that you must attend all scheduled sessions and activities.
IMD must be notified in writing of all cancellations and transfers. If you are admitted to a program, but find that you are unable to attend, you have the following cancellation and transfer options: Up to six weeks before program start:
