The IMD Family Business Center was founded in 1988, the same year as the Leading the Family Business program. Today the center represents expertise gained from two decades of providing research and developing educational programs for family businesses all over the world.

While I have been strongly involved and identified with the Leading the Family Business (LFB) program since its launch, there is only one person who can claim credit for being the founding father of this unique educational program: Frank Tilley. A second-generation owner-manager of a Canadian leather-goods company, he started the process that led to LFB while he was Executive-in-Residence at the International Management Institute (IMI) in Geneva from September 1987 to June 1988.
